The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
According to AP Central, schools must meet or exceed the criteria for a given recognition level for all three metrics, which includes college culture, college credit and college optimization.
NCHS placed bronze (46% of students) for college culture, bronze (26% of students) for college credit, and bronze (3% of students) for college optimization.
"As a small rural school we are proud to be able to offer our students the chance to take AP courses and earn college credits" said Principal Ulrich when asked to give a comment on this award. "As a school we are committed to providing all of our students a well rounded and challenging curriculum that prepares students for their next steps after NCHS."
For planning and goal setting purposes for schools, College Board listed the following criteria to earn silver status:
- Expand college culture by enabling 50% of the Class of 2024 to experience one AP course before graduating.
- Assist with college affordability by enabling 30% of the Class of 2024 to earn college credit by earning an AP Exam score of 3.
- Optimize student's college readiness by creating opportunities for 5% of the Class of 2024 to take a total of five APs across their high school years, with at least one taken in 9th or 10th grade.
